Imperial China

China, 1883-85 Large Dragon 3ca. vermilion [4], rough perfs. variety semi-circle to right of lower left "3", and in addition there is the elusive printing variety extra "3" to the right of the left value tablet, fresh clear color, well centred, cancelled by seal in blue and part "Customs/Shanghai" c.d.s., both of which leave the variety clear, very fine and in all probability a unique combination of varieties. The most spectacular and rarest plate variety to be found on the Large Dragons. Ex Anna-Lisa and Sven-Eric Beckeman.

China, 1897 Red Revenue large figures surcharge $5 on 3c. red, variety surcharge inverted, deep bright colour, fresh unused with much original gum, a fine appearing example of this rare and popular variety.

China, 1897 Red Revenue small figures surcharge 4c. on 3c. red, wonderfully fresh bright colour, perfect centring within enormous balanced margins, extremely fine unused with much original gum. Irrefutably one of the finest examples extant of the 175 stamps receiving the surcharge solely in black.
